At My Flying Box, we know that in order to accompany you in your shipments (especially of valuables), the subscription of an insurance is essential.
According to a recent survey, 62% of consumers say they have had at least one problem with receiving their order. The top sources of frustration are:

- The product arrived damaged,
- The package arrived late,
- The recipient discovers a notice in his mailbox while he was at home,
– Le colis n’a jamais été réceptionné par le client

In order to respond to these unexpected events, many insurance policies exist today to cover the sender et de rassurer le destinataire quant à la livraison des colis et ce en toute confiance.

What is Ad Valorem insurance?

By definition " Ad Valorem » means "based on value". So, as the name suggests, insurance is based on the value of the shipment.

Ad Valorem insurance Secursus covers the risk of damage and/or loss during transport, i.e. destruction or deterioration, but also theft and loss of merchandise. International shipments have a greater risk of being lost than shipments within your own country or within the European Union, so it is very important to insure your parcels!

To be reimbursed, you must provide proof of purchase of your shipped goods (receipt, invoice, receipt, etc.) which justifies the value of the goods.

Attention : Read your insurance contract in detail. A discount may be provided on the value of the goods transported if the latter is not a new product. It should be noted that the reimbursement of transport costs is not covered by insurance.

Remember to pack your shipments well. The insurance can only work if, prior to shipment, the insured product to be transported has been well packaged!

In the event of damage, liability lies solely with the sender. The insurance contract does not cover the deterioration of a product if the packaging is not recognized as satisfactory. (see our advice on «Properly prepare your shipments of fragile parcels».)

Why take out Ad valorem insurance for the transport of your parcels?

When the responsability of carriers is involved indemnities in the event of litigation are very limited. They can be calculated on the basis of a flat rate or on the basis of a reimbursement calculated on a price per kg ratio (like the examples mentioned above).

Secursus offers you one of the cheapest "ad valorem" transport insurance on the market.

L’assurance Ad Valorem Secursus compensates based on the declared value of the goods that have been shipped, up to €100,000 of declared value per parcel, a non-negligible aspect!

Parcel delivery: What is the responsibility of the seller and the carrier?

The carrier undertakes with the seller to deliver the goods entrusted. As a seller, merchant or e-merchant, you agree to send the product in good condition. However, even if the fault lies with the carrier, you are still responsible for meeting your obligations to your customers.

More strictly, according to the Hamon law, and more precisely according to the consumer code implemented on June 16, 2017 states, " The trader is automatically liable to the consumer for the proper performance of the obligations arising from the distance contract (…) However, he may be exempted from all or part of his liability by proving that the non-performance or poor performance of the contract is attributable.» (Article L221-15).
